Blackshear Chapter was organized in the summer of 1938 because there was
no patriotic organization to promote the research and preservation of the
history of Rochelle or Wilcox County. Since General Blackshear participated in the final subjugation of the Indians in the area of which Wilcox County is a part and because he established a trade route over which the county's wealth developed and flowed, the Daughters of the American Revolution of Rochelle, Wilcox County named the chapter for this Revolutionary War soldier. |
